SweetFern Garden Design specializes in colorful, ecologically-based perennial and shrub gardens.

Some gardeners are looking for a quiet refuge, others for a long-lasting exuberant display of color, or for plants that support wildlife.  My focus is on creating gardens that meet my client's varied goals, while also nurturing all the other life that shares our space - from birds and butterflies to lowly soil organisms.

In an ecologically based garden, plants are selected to thrive in existing garden conditions without lots of extra inputs, such as fertilizer, pesticides, or water.  And, just as in nature, plants can play more than one role.  For example, a plant with beautiful flowers might also attract pollinators and provide edible fruit.

Equally important, as more wild lands are developed, it is clear that we need to integrate more native species into our gardens, thereby supporting the plant, insect, animal and bird communities on which all life depends.

I look forward to hearing from you, whether your available space is a few square feet by your front door, or a large backyard.
